The Doctor’s Degree of Management Science and Engineering for foreign students is to train high-lever specialized personnel in engaging in management science research and practice. The concrete requirements for the Doctor’s Degree of Management Science and Engineering are: the candidates have: ⑴ good moral qualities and the spirit of devoting, cooperating, developing and innovating; ⑵ a good command of basic theories and systematic professional knowledge, and understanding of the frontier trends in the profession; ⑶ the ability of doing management scientific research independently, and the ability of applying professional knowledge to analyze and solve practical problems; ⑷ the ability of doing statistics analysis, case study, countermeasure analysis and applying qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis; ⑸ at least one creative research fruit in management science and engineering field; and ⑹ a fairly good grasp of computer.

Generally the Doctor’s Degree of Management Science and Engineering is a three-Four year doctoral program (the graduation time for the doctoral students in-service can be prolonged to 5 years); the total credit is no less than 25.

Ⅴ.Practical Operation

Three kinds of assistantships are offered separately in teaching, managing, and researching during practical operations. The students, participating practical activities, are required to write reports on the activities, and will get 2 credits after checked and appraised by the instructing teachers. During their school years, foreign students should investigate at least six units (enterprises, financial units and departments of government, etc..) Before writing thesis, students should carry out investigation on the areas of their selected topics, and put the results of investigation into their thesis proposal reports. Postgraduates should take part in the activities organized by their advisers, e.g. enterprise diagnosis, area development, industrial development consultation, etc.. The time for practical operation is 60-80 hours. The doctoral students in-service can exempt from doing Practical Operation, but you will not get this part of credits. You must make up the credits by learning elective courses.

Ⅵ.Scientific Research and Thesis

The students should take active part in research tasks undertaken by their advisors and play an important role in the project. The students should complete thesis proposal report in one or one and half a school year (the deadline for the students in-service is two school years). During the school years, the students should write and put forward at least 3 papers on their related doctoral thesis fields in Chinese or foreign academic publications or international academic conferences as the first writer or the second writer. And only after publishing the first thesis, can the student open his or her proposal report.

The topics of doctor’s degree thesis should be the frontier topics in the field or have the importance to the development of our society and economy. The degree thesis should be creative and advanced, and can present the writer’s particular opinion. The grade of the thesis should be on top in national similar theses. In the doctor’s degree theses, the students should systematically summarize and analyze a great amount of national and international researches, and apply qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Case study, statistics analysis, quantity demonstration, and mathematics model should be applied in the thesis.

Ⅶ.Education Styles and Methods

   The heuristic and deliberative methods of education are to be adopted, and students are required to attend necessary academic lectures, academic reports, seminars, and social practice. During their school years, the doctoral students should attend social investigations on their research courses.

Ⅷ.Others

   The foreign doctoral students should refer at least 100 national or international literatures (foreign literatures should be over one third of the total number of literatures), attend national or international academic activities no more than 10 times, and write above 500-word report after each activity, readout academic fruits or present topic at least 3 times.
